Continuous flow synthesis of therapeutic pharmaceutical compounds has been demonstrated with the Vortex Fluidic Device, and shown to be particularly effective when performed via two serially-linked VFDs. In one example demonstration optimised monophasic flow conditions were shown to be effective in executing the total synthesis of the local anesthetic lidocaine in less than 80 seconds and at 85% yield.
